Tropical Moisture and Instability Make for Several Days of Showers and Thunderstorms

Deep layer tropical moisture is combining with waves of instability to create an extended period with scattered showers and thunderstorms that will carry well into next week. A powerful upper level storm system digging into the Desert Southwest of the U.S. will provide strong jet stream and thermal dynamics to support persistent storm activity, especially in the High Plains where a flash flood watch has been posted. Look for ample rainfall in the Crossroads through midweek, but little in the way of a severe weather threat. Meanwhile, a disturbance near the Yucatan will move into the Central Gulf of Mexico Sunday and is likely to become a tropical storm. Best landfall chance is around Pensacola FL.
