Travis Middle School student advances to the Scripps National Spelling Bee

VICTORIA, Texas – In one of the shortest Regional Spelling Bee contests in recent memory – a Calhoun County student came out victorious.
Doreen Luo, a Travis Middle School eighth-grader, spelled ‘optimum’ to secure her spot as the regional champion. Doreen will go on to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee contest in Washington D.C. this summer. Doreen’s parents are David Luo and Christina Lin. Best of luck to Doreen as she goes on to the national competition.
