Track road closures in Victoria County

VICTORIA COUNTY, Texas – The Victoria Office of Emergency Management announced that the majority of the roads and highways in Victoria have become dangerous to travel on due to the winter weather conditions.

This is making emergency response delayed if not impossible. These winter weather conditions are expected to continue for the next 18 to 24 hours. They advise all citizens, travelers, and community members to staff off of the roadways, stay home, and stay safe.

At 4:00 p.m., the Victoria Police Department confirmed they have responded to 12 crashes in Victoria Sunday.

The crashes have mainly been on U.S. 59 or Zac Lentz Parkway, said police.

At about 6:00 p.m. Sunday, the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office announced a list of road closures.

This is an exact statement the sheriff’s office issued on social media:

The following roads are currently reported “Closed due to ice”. TXDOT is currently sanding roads and bridges. We are currently working a heavy call volume of traffic crashes. Please do not get out if you don’t have to! Conditions are very dangerous.

The roads that are currently closed are as stated:

  1. Highway 87 with traffic being diverted to Farm to Market 1090
  2. Highway 59 is now open at the Spur, northbound side

The DeWitt County of Office of Emergency Management posted on social media an update to road closures as of 6:45 p.m. –

183 North Bridge. Detour using Old Gonzales Road.
72 Between Nordhiem and Karnes County Line various ice patches.
87 North various ice patches from Cuero to Westhoff
72 Between Cuero and Yorktown various ice patches
87 North Powerline down at Arndt Rd. Emergency Crews en route.
Other County Closures
59 is closing in Victoria County lanes are undrivable. Emergency Services is stranded in spots.
