Toys for Tots now taking donations

The basic mission of the program is to collect new unwrapped toys and distribute those toys to less fortunate children at Christmas

VICTORIA, Texas – With Christmas around the corner it’s time to get after those shopping lists, however, there are families who may not be able to afford gifts for their children this time of year, which is where Toys for Tots comes in. The basic mission of the program is to collect new unwrapped toys and distribute those toys to less fortunate children at Christmas.

Toys for Tots in Victoria have tables set up outside the Walmart on Navarro just outside the entrance and have begun taking donations for Christmas. Toys for Tots bridges the gap for families who just don’t have the extra money to buy their children Christmas gifts. With the Christmas season now here there is a big push to get donations to be able to ensure every child who needs a gift is able to get one.

Jack Thomas is a volunteer for Toys for Tots taking donations saying that after the past two years and everything that’s gone on in the world, everyone deserves a good holiday season.

“I think that’s what my job is to make people aware that people need help and this has been, the last two years have been horrible and this is why I’m here, to help out,” says Thomas

Thomas says that just yesterday Toys for Tots raised close to a thousand dollars, saying that the generosity he sees from Victorians warms his heart.

Donations can be anything from cash, checks, or even toys which you can directly donate and place in one of the boxes they have set up outside their table. Someone even purchased a bicycle and brought it out to Thomas.

You can catch 25 News Now meteorologist Trey Meying on Friday, December 10 where he’ll be helping out with Stuff the Truck, a donation drive with Toys for Tots. Trey will be in the H-E-B Plus going live throughout the day, all in an effort to make sure every single child gets a Christmas gift.
