Tidehaven stadium renovation nears completion
ELMATON, Texas — Tidehaven ISD is nearly the completion of a $4 million stadium renovation.
The renovation, which is the final stage of a $50 million bond project that began in 2012, includes a transition to state-of-the-art turf, LED lighting, and an eight-lane track to replace the stadium’s six-lane version. The turf itself features eco-therm pellets — which will keep the surface twenty to thirty degrees cooler than standard field turf — as well as a one-inch cushion to help prevent traumatic head injuries and concussions.
Tidehaven ISD Superintendent Andrew Seigrist says he believes the upgrades will make the facility a local destination for athletes and families alike.
“People can come out here and enjoy the track, they can run on it and exercise on it.,” Seigrist said on Monday. “This is an open facility for the entire community — we’re very excited about that.”
The project also entails the construction of a new concession and bathroom facility on the south end of the stadium, as well as extended bleachers and a new press box. Seigrist estimates the bleacher renovations will add about 350 seats to the total capacity of the stadium.
Ranked in the top ten heading into 2019, Tidehaven football opens up the regular season at home against Refugio on Friday. An official grand opening and ribbon cutting for the renovated complex will be held on September 27th, before the team’s game against Danbury.
