Calhoun Moves Up Three Spots

Three area high school football teams make the final regular season Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine state polls Monday.
Calhoun, moving up three spots to number five in the 5A Division II poll. Last Friday night, the Sandcrabs won the district championship by downing then third-ranked Calallen, 17-6, denying coach Phil Danaher his 400th career win. The Sandcrabs went 6-1 in district, with their only loss the forfeit to Alice, and they host their bi-district playoff Friday night against Sharyland.

Two more area high school football teams take up the top two spots in the state 2A Division I poll. Refugio, now at 10-0 on the season, remains in the top spot, like the Bobcats have all season, after blowing out Three Rivers to win their district championship. Shiner stays at number two. The Comanches, now 10-0 after whipping Brazos to clinch the top playoff seed from their district. Thursday night in Floresville, Shiner plays bi-district against Freer. Friday night. Refugio plays bi-district at Gobbler Stadium in Cuero against Brazos.
