Three Area H.S. Football Teams Make State Polls 11-4

Calhoun, Refugio, Shiner Stay Top Ten

Three area high school football teams make the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine state polls Monday.
Calhoun, staying at number eight in the 5A Division II poll. Last Friday night, the Sandcrabs improved to 5-1 in district by winning big over Southside. Quarterback Connor Kestler rushed for 271 yards and five touchdowns and passed for 93 yards and a touchdown to lead the Calhoun offense. Steve Johnson chipped in a 40-yard touchdown run as the Sandcrabs rolled up 563 yards of offense. The Sandcrabs continue district play Friday night at home against third ranked Calallen in one of the biggest games in the state.

Two more area high school football teams take up the top two spots in the state 2A Division I poll. Refugio, now at 9-0 on the season, remains in the top spot after blowing out Ben Bolt in district play, 64-8. Shiner stays at number two. The Comanches, now 9-0 after its bye week. This Friday night. Refugio hosts Three Rivers, Shiner plays at Brazos.
