There were hundreds of people gathered in Cuero to watch the Great Gobbler Gallop race
CUERO, Texas — In Cuero, several people were waiting at the finish line to see the Great Gobbler Gallop race. T he winner of this turkey race will take home a special award.
Kenneth Schley, the Captain of The Cuero Race Team said, “We are getting ready to race a turkey down the street. Our Turkey is fast, we also won in Minnesota by nine seconds and hopefully, we will win again today”.
The Cuero race team has used Ruby Begonia Of Cuero for the last few years to race against Paycheck Of Worthington Minnesota. However, this is the second time in 2019 Ruby Begonia and Paycheck has raced but this time the Traveling Turkey Trophy of Tumultuous Triumph is going to be giving out to the fastest turkey from both races combined.
“Today our turkey starts nine seconds behind Ruby and its all about trying to get down a block and a half guiding our turkeys to the finish line. Hopefully, we will finish ten seconds ahead of Ruby to win this race,” said Jaime Salinas, Worthington Minnesota Race Team Captain.
When the race started both teams were guiding their turkey to the finish line. Salinas said his secret was to stay behind or on side of Paycheck but don’t get in front of him. Once both teams finished several people were cheering for both teams.
The winner of the 47 th Annual, Great Gobbler Gallup was Paycheck of Worthington Minnesota, and he won the Traveling Turkey Trophy of Tumultuous Triumph award.
“I knew it was going to be very, very close when I looked from the corner of my eyes and saw Ruby was really close during the race. Both birds ran so well, and I knew it was going to be such a close race and I’m happy with the results,” said Salinas.
