VICTORIA,Texas–A new semi-pro team in the Texas Independent League, the Victoria Armadillos, held try outs Saturday morning at Riverside Stadium, which included a Victoria resident who played with the New York Yankees organization.
Pitcher, Andre Del Bosque, a native of Victoria played at the University of Houston-Victoria and was drafted his junior year by the Yankees. He was with the organization until 2014. Now he has returned to his old stomping grounds to continue playing the game he knows so well.
“I’m just excited to be back in Victoria. I mean with everything going on it’s just nice to get back out and do sports again and bring something back to the community and getting an opportunity playing in my old stadium again is something I’ve missed,” said Bosque.
The Victoria Armadillos were scheduled to start in October but that is now pushed back to late November, early December due to the pandemic. But if that doesn’t work the team might have to wait until early next year.
