The specimen collection site will be a drive- through

Open Tuesdays and Fridays

This article was updated on Wednesday, March 25th to include new information about the specimen collection site’s days and hours of operation.

VICTORIA,Texas–The mobile specimen collection site which will take place in the parking lot adjacent to the Community Center begins Tuesday.

Dr. McNeill explained that the drive-through facility is not a public testing center. They will take patients who are pre-registered and pre-approved by a doctor. Patients approved will be swabbed for a specimen, much like a flu swab, which will be sent off. This will be a collaborative effort through hospitals and local labs. The goal is to get many more tests done.

“So what we’re going to do is we’re going to set this thing up it will be drive-through. It will be very well run we have strict guidelines based on CDC standards and recommendations on how we’re going to do that,” said Dr. McNeill.

The specimen collection site is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon.

Some of those recommendations include contact with a COVID-19 positive person, recent travel to affected areas, shortness of breath, and a fever over 100.4 degrees.

Before being sent for COVID-19 testing your primary care physician will test for flu and strep as these illnesses show similar symptoms.

“The way to get into this you have gotta have a specific physician’s order to do it.  So you’ll have an order so we’ve sent out information to area physicians for what to look for. There’s a specific form that goes to the Center of Disease Control that has to be filled out,” continued Dr. McNeill.

Scheduling for future testing at the drive-through site will be determined by your doctor and the Public Health Department.
