Gov. warns against large social gatherings

VICTORIA, Texas- Newscenter 25’s Don Brubaker conducted a live interview with Governor Abbott Wednesday via satellite discussing the increase in COVID-19 cases in Texas.

Governor Abbott addressed some of the questions viewers submitted via email and in the comment section on our social media.

July 1st saw a record number in COVID-19 cases, more than 8,000 cases reported statewide. In response to the question of how we got to this point, the governor replied, “In April we had a downward trend line so that we were able to open up, and for the month of May we went down even further sinking down to a positivity rate of just 4.5% of the people testing, testing positive. Yes, there are more people being tested but at the same time the positivity rate has gone up to more than 14%.

The Governor goes on to explain that because some people who are COVID positive are not showing symptoms, it is still risky to be around anyone right now as asymptomatic people are still spreading the virus.
