The ‘Flamingo’ Ladies Invitational scheduled for May 15 at The Club at Colony Creek

The Flamingo Ladies Annual Golf Tournament is back in full swing

2021 opens the door for the Flamingo Ladies Annual Golf Tournament to return to The Club at Colony Creek in Victoria on May 15 after a year off due to the pandemic. This year The Colony Creek Ladies Golf Association (CCLGA) is hosting at an earlier date, in cooler spring weather, changing to a one-day golf format and having an exciting new ball drop.

These changes are being implemented based on feedback from past Flamingo surveys and the pandemic. The Flamingo is a fun and charitable event for women golfers of all levels from the Crossroads area, and from all around Texas.

Significant modifications have been made this year to accommodate social distancing and comfort among players. The one-day format and later start time will alleviate the need for overnight stays. Participants tee off for 18 holes of play at 9 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by an awards luncheon.

“We have worked very hard to make sure all of our participants feel comfortable coming to this great event. We have worked closely with The Club and pro shop to ensure safety for everyone, from sanitizing indoors to scheduling events outdoors as much as possible,” said tournament director, Toni Pizalate.

The CCLGA uses residual funds from the tournament to sponsor local female high school and college golf programs and other local organizations such as the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch.

The Flamingo Invitational includes a “Buy A Drive” on hole 16, the signature par 3 island green. Funds from this promotion are given to Hospice of South Texas.

“Hospice is an important charity for us because we have lost fellow golf friends over the years, and this is one way we can honor them,” said Debbie Horton, president of the CCLGA. “It is incredible that such a fun event for the players can also benefit our local community and provide support to valuable organizations that have impacted us directly.”

Part of the mission of the CCLGA is to promote, foster, develop and conduct activities to promote interest in golf among women, and to create a social atmosphere for the enjoyment of golf.

The Flamingo Ladies Invitational has multiple flights to encourage women golfers of all levels to participate and the quality of food, gifts, prizes and event format make it a crowd drawing event. Players enjoy the festive flamingos and pink displays at The Club and throughout the neighborhood, as this has become an annual event that many homeowners cheer on as part of the social fun!
