Texas DPS arrests two suspects for money smuggling
VICTORIA, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety arrested two people last week for attempting to smuggle money through Victoria county.
According to court documents, Benita Elizabeth Mata and a driver were pulled over by DPS troopers on US 59.
The trooper searched their car and discovered three bundles of cash wrapped in rubber bands, a telltale sign of money laundering.
In total, nearly $45,000 were recovered from the car.
Mata and the driver, Armando Mireles, were arrested and charged with third degree money laundering, which is a felony.
Both were held on $30,000 bond and have since been released.
