VICTORIA, Texas — On Monday, 12/09/2019, 3:33 PM, the Victoria Police Department received a call of a vehicle burglary which just occurred in the parking lot of Planet Fitness, 5206 N. Navarro St.
The caller observed a subject break the window of a vehicle, enter the trunk, and take property. The subject then entered a white Jeep SUV which was last seen traveling north on Navarro St.
A VPD Officer observed a vehicle matching the description which ran a red light at N. Navarro St. and Zac Lentz Parkway. The officer got caught up in traffic, but located the vehicle again, unoccupied, in the parking lot of Walmart, 9002 N. Navarro St.
A Victoria County Sheriff Deputy who was assisting observed two subjects enter the vehicle; one matching the description of one of the offenders from the burglary. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in the parking lot of Yamato Hibachi and Sushi, 9104 N. Navarro St.
The occupants of the vehicle were identified as 29 year old Denzel Lawson and 31 year old Francisco Riasco; both of Houston TX.
Inside the vehicle, officers located two purses which had been taken from the vehicle at Planet Fitness as well as a window punch and other burglary tools.
Lawson and Riasco were arrested and charged with Unlawful Use of Criminal Instrument and Burglary of a Vehicle.
If it weren’t for the observant citizen who called the burglary in and the collaborative effort between the VCSO and the VPD, these offenders may not have been captured.
