Susanna Bailey receives honor as the Victoria Telecommunicator of the Year

Bailey is one of the first responders honored in ceremony hosted by local Rotary Club

VICTORIA, Texas—- The Victoria Northside Rotary Club presented awards to the First Responders for their work in the community Thursday.

Susanna Bailey is a 911 dispatcher. Dispatchers are the people who help the community get connected to the correct first responders. We recognize Susanna Bailey for being the Telecommunicator of the Year.

“I was surprised actually, so we have a banquet every year and no one knows they are getting the award until the actual day of the banquet and they have different nominees. So I didn’t know until my name was called pretty much that I had won the award. I just knew that I was nominated but I was very surprised,” said Susanna Bailey, 911 Dispatcher.

Bailey says she loves her job and being able to help the citizens of Victoria, but sometimes the work comes with a few challenges.

“It’s something that people may not realize when you call into 911. We sometimes have experienced that same thing that you’re going through and so that’s probably the most challenging thing to try to get through that to try to help

them,” said Susanna Bailey.

The award ceremony took place Thursday afternoon at the Victoria Country Club. Mayor Rawley McCoy gave his appreciation to those first responders who were awarded for their hard work. Another first responder honored is Sergeant Jason Boyd, who is being recognized as Deputy of the Year.

“We must take care of those folks that risk their lives for us and we must take care of all of our other city employees. If we want to keep them here in Victoria, and I’m here to tell you that we appreciate you and we thank you for what you do,” said Susanna Bailey.

We want to show our appreciation to all the first responders in the Crossroads for putting your lives on the line to be of service to the community.
