Suddenlink helps Shields Elementary with $1 million initiative

Suddenlink donated tech devices to Shields Elementary school in VISD.

VICTORIA, Texas – Suddenlink felt inspired by the pandemic and the need for schools to have virtual access for students. They wanted to make learning from home easier.

As part of a 1 million initiative, they are impacting 30 school districts. These areas are already served by the company, enabling them to work and learn from home.

“So we look at our core culture is that we give back to the communities we serve. Victoria ISD is very important to us. As a company, we’ve taken a million dollars and set it aside to come along side schools. That gives us future innovators and technologists a chance of being able to continue their education, which is very important,” said Regional Vice President of Suddenlink, Mike Petty.

Shields Elementary school in VISD received 20 iPads and 600 earbuds with microphones. While Suddenlink is committed to providing internet and broadband services, they felt this would be a great way to help the community, during a unique school year.

“I can tell you, working with the VISD has been a great joy and a great pleasure. Dr. Shepherd was so excited about this donation from the get go, when it was first mentioned to him. Ms. Gabbers and Ms. Prichard over at Shields Elementary, both of them have been such a great joy to work with. It’s not our first time, we’ve worked with them on several giving back projects and it’s just been a great partnership,” said Market Engagement Specialist, Curt Allison.

While Shields elementary school’s mission is to engage individualized instruction in a positive and student centered community. These tools, provided by Suddenlink will help support their learning expectations, despite the pandemic’s challenges.
