Students learn about judicial system at Mock Trial
Our Lady of Victory Catholic School held their Fourth Annual Mock Trial at the Victoria County Courthouse earlier this morning.
The premise is to teach the students about the judicial system.
The eighth graders took characters from a book and acted as witnesses and lawyers in the trial.
This year the novel was “The Outsiders” with the seniors from St. Joseph High School acting as the jury.
Our Lady of Victory English Teacher Teresa Childress says this trial is a good learning experience for her students.
“They have loved it. They have learned so much about impromptu speaking, about organizing and writing, the ability to talk in front of a group, and to research a witness, and be able to present what’s important,” said Childress.
Childress also says it’s good practice for the legal system, And we have learned the defendant was found not guilty.
