Staff member at Stroman Middle School and student at Aloe Elementary test positive for COVID-19

Three students in VISD test positive for COVID-19 in four days

VICTORIA, Texas- Mere hours after the Victoria Independent School District announced a COVID-positive student at Crain Elementary on Friday, they have issued new statements announcing the second COVID-positive staff member at Stroman Middle School and a COVID-positive student at Aloe Elementary School.

The first staff member who tested positive at Stroman Middle School was announced on September 9th.

In-person classes began on September 8th in VISD and the past four days two staff members and three students have tested positive for the coronavirus.

To protect the identity of the students the district will not be releasing any personally identifying information about the students or staff members. The district confirms that the faculty at Stroman present on the campus on Friday, September 11th, and the student at Aloe Elementary was present on Thursday, September 10th.

VISD confirms that contact tracing has begun. If it is determined the COVID-positive person had any contact with students or staff the identified students and staff will be directly notified no later than 5:00 p.m. on September 11, 2020. The release explains that operations at both schools will continue as usual.

Those in close contact will remain off-campus for up to 14 days to ensure they do not have the virus and to ensure that there will be no further spread.

Any areas accessed by the COVID-positive person will be cleaned and disinfected according to CDC and TEA guidelines.

The district does not believe there is any reason for concern, however, they advise the community to monitor any symptoms that could be indicative of COVID-19.

Any of the following symptoms indicate a possible COVID-19 infection:

  • Temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth;
  • Sore throat;
  • New uncontrolled cough causing difficulty breathing (or, for students with a chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline);
  • Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; or
  • New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever.

If you or any student in VISD begins experiencing any of these symptoms in a way that his not typical, you are encouraged to contact your physician and notify your school as soon as possible.
