Student tests positive for COVID-19 at Stroman Middle School

24 hours after Stroman announces staff member who tested positive for Coronavirus

VICTORIA, Texas- A student at Stroman Middle School has received a confirmed positive COVID-19 test, Victoria Independent School District announced Thursday afternoon.

This announcement comes just 24 hours after Stroman announced a staff member who tested positive for COVID-19 Wednesday.

To protect the student’s privacy the district is not releasing any personally identifying information about the individual who tested positive.

A press release from the school district states that contact tracing has begun. If it is determined the COVID-positive student had any contact with students or staff, the identified students and staff will be directly notified no later than September 10, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. Any areas accessed by the COVID-positive person will be cleaned and disinfected according to CDC and TEA guidelines.

Those in close contact will remain off-campus for up to 14 days to ensure they do not have the virus and to ensure that there will be no further spread.

The district explains that in the meantime, operations at Stroman Middle School will continue as usual.

VISD feels that the community does not have reason to be concerned, and they ask that people monitor their health and symptoms that may be indicative of COVID-19.

Any of the following symptoms indicate a possible COVID-19 infection:

  • Temperature of4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth;
  • Sore throat;
  • New uncontrolled cough causing difficulty breathing (or, for students with a chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline);
  • Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; or
  • New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever.

If you or any member of the Stroman Middle School community does begin experiencing any of these symptoms in a way that is not typical, contact your physician. The district asks anyone in the Stroman Middle School community who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 to please notify the school by contacting us at 361-578-2711.
