Stroman Middle School student wins county bee
VICTORIA, Texas – Aaron Ehsan, a Stroman Middle School eighth-grader, came out as the top speller at the Victoria County Spelling Bee.
Ehsan and Laney Aiken were named co-champions once again at the county bee.
Last year Laney, a Cade Middle School eighth-grader, was the top speller.
On Thursday at the Victoria College Emerging Technology Complex, the competition ended when Aaron spelled, “salubrious.”
“I’m very excited, she’s a very good speller so I wasn’t expecting it to be so fast, I thought it would go a little bit longer,” Aaron said. “A lot of them were very young, like third-graders, pretty good spellers, very talented people. Keep trying, by the time you come around eighth grade, I’m pretty sure you can get pretty far.”
Ehsan has gone all the way to the Scripps’ National Spelling Bee. He placed 52nd when he was in fifth grade. The co-champions will go on to represent Victoria County at the Regional Spelling Bee on March 6 at Parkway Church in Victoria.
