Straight Arrow Archery Learning Center Closing
A local place that has produced national sports champions is closing its doors. Here is the news release from the Straight Arrow Archery Learning Center.
The Board of Directors of Straight Arrow Archery Learning Center reluctantly announces that it will close the archery range at 60 Storehouse Drive on June 30, 2018. Review of its financial situation revealed that sufficient funds cannot be generated to continue to operate the archery range and educational programs at this location.
Those who hold a current active subscription will be given a pro-rated refund upon request and provision of a current mailing address. The request may be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org by June 30. It can also be mailed to 60 Storehouse Drive, Victoria, TX 77904 by June 20; the mail will not be received at that address after June 30.
Straight Arrow has successfully met its goal of promoting youth archery in the Crossroads area since Tom Barker, Gene Kacir, and Joni Brown opened the range in September, 2009. It operated one of the largest indoor archery ranges in Texas and became recognized as a center of archery excellence in south central Texas. It sponsored indoor and outdoor archery competitions in collaboration with neighboring county and District 11 4-H projects, Texas State Archery Association, Shoot Your Way Across Texas, and USA Archery. The South Texas Junior Olympic Archery Development Club, the Victoria County 4-H Archery project, and the Victoria Crossroads Home School Education Association held regular training and events at the range. Individual and group archery lessons were available for recreational and competitive archers of all ages and abilities, including special needs archers. Forty-seven youth archers achieved bronze, silver or gold USA Archery Olympian awards while training at Straight Arrow and made twelve podium finishes at thirty-two international tournaments. Classes to certify USA Archery Level 1 & 2 coaches were held at the range. Straight Arrow has been the only non-commercial venue for archers and coaches to receive many necessary services in Victoria and the surrounding area. At the present time, the closest commercial archery shops are in Hallettsville and Corpus Christi.
The board is proud of Straight Arrow’s contribution to archery and is grateful for the confidence so many archers placed in our ability to meet their needs. We trust that Straight Arrow has been a place where lessons were learned in discipline, self confidence, honesty, and sportsmanship; the place where friendships were made; as well as the place where archery skills were improved.
The Straight Arrow Archery Learning Center board of directors will continue to maintain its 501(c)(3) status and entertain options for a future location for promoting archery programs and events.
