STPGA Professional Championship Tees Off From Victoria CC
VICTORIA, TEXAS (August 27, 2018) — Chad Donegan, PGA Director of Golf at Landa Park Golf Course, Omar Uresti, PGA Life Member, and JJ Wood, PGA Teaching Professional at Golf Performance Group, sit atop the leaderboard after shooting an opening round of 68 (-3) at the 50 th Southern Texas PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car and OMEGA.
Three professionals sit just one stroke back at 2-under par. Bill Wening, PGA Teaching Professional at Lake Windcrest Golf Club, Jamie Christianson, PGA Head Professional at The Dominion Country Club, and Joe Mitchell, PGA Assistant Professional at Shadow Hawk Golf Club, all fired rounds of 69.
The field is competing for seven qualifying spots for the 2019 PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car and OMEGA. The Championship will be contested April 28 – May 1, 2019, at Belfair in Bluffton, South Carolina. Bern Kern, PGA Head Professional at Georgetown Country Club, is automatically exempt into the 2019 PGA Professional Championship with his top-20 finish at the 2018 PGA Professional Championship at Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Course in June. Omar Uresti is also exempt into the 2019 event after winning the Championship in 2017.
The Championship is being held at Victoria Country Club, a 6,870-yard, par 72 layout, which is being played as a par 71 at 6,856-yards for this week’s Championship. The Country Club has played host to this event three times, with the most recent being the 25th Southern Texas PGA Professional Championship in 1993. J. L. Lewis topped the leaderboard that year.
The 2018 Southern Texas PGA Professional Championship is supported by Titleist & FootJoy, Nike, and TaylorMade. Tee times will start tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.
