STJ Sports Coaching Changes And Student-Athlete Honors

Softball, Baseball TAPPS Honors Released

A veteran St. Joe coach gets a new team to lead.

Alvin Mumphord has been named as STJ’s head coach for cross country. Coach Mumphord has been a part of the STJ athletic program for many years, several of which he has assisted with cross country. St. Joseph has also hired Steve Jones to assist coach Mumphord in cross country, and also as an assistant for STJ track and field. Coach Jones has been a coach for the Our Lady Of Victory track and field team. Coach Arlene Mumphord will continue to assist with cross country as well.

Several St. Joe softball players get major honors. Three Lady Flyers make the TAPPS 5A Division II All-State team. Tori Chapa gets second team honors, while honorable mention goes to Emily Llanes
and Julianna Espinoza. St. Joe girls getting TAPPS 5A Division II District 4 All-District honors include
first team picks Chapa, Llanes and Espinoza, along with Olivia Valenzuela and Katherine Terry. Mariah Morris, Cassidy Rather, Alexa Morris, Madison Rather and Alayna Mares are second team All-District picks, while Yazmeen Melchor receives honorable mention. All-State TAPPS 5A Academic honors go to
Llanes, Espinoza, Terry, Madison Rather, Morris, Valenzuela, and Chapa.

Three St. Joe baseball players get TAPPS 5A Division II District 5 All-District honors. Richard Angerstein, picked for the first team, while Matthew Janak and Patrick Kenney get second team honors, and Kenney earns TAPPS 5A Academic All-State honors.
