STJ Senior Brooke Reaves Named National Merit Finalist

St. Joseph High School senior, Brooke Reaves, has been selected as a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Reaves is one of 15,000 finalists who have met the requirements to be considered for National Merit Scholarships in 2017.

About 1.6 million high school juniors initially entered the competition by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT (PSAT) test.

To become a Finalist, a Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.

In the Spring, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation will notify 7,500 of the finalists that they have been selected to receive Merit Scholarship awards, worth $33 million.

“Brooke’s scores have put her among the highest achievers in the scholarship competition,” said Tom Maj, STJ president/principal. “On behalf of the faculty and staff at St. Joseph High School, we congratulate Brooke on her achievement, and wish her the best as she moves on in the competition.”

Reaves is the daughter of Derel and Susanna Reaves of Victoria, Texas.
