STJ Football Preview

St. Joe football, getting ready to start the season at home Friday night.
The Flyers have 24 varsity players back from last year, plus six transfers from East. They have put in new offensive and defensive schemes. New head coach Bryan Jones told me the offense will run the spread a bit more than last year. Starting quarterback Jacob Bordovsky returns, but coach Jones told me he may be used at other positions as well. I asked coach Jones how the new look offense is looking. “It’s really hard to tell. In the pre-season we worked on a few things. You don’t call a game in the pre-season as you do in the regular season. We worked on a few things that we needed to get better at and we improved on those things.”
St. Joe football opens the season Friday night against Bloomington at Patti Welder Stadium.
The latest on that game on the season 19 premiere of Friday Football Fever, 10:20 Friday night after Newscenter 25 at ten.

Texas football coach Tom Herman said he’s willing to talk to the NCAA about a visit to a Florida strip club with Zach Smith when both were Ohio State assistants.

Ohio State this week identified Herman as the assistant with Smith at the club, a visit that was revealed in an Ohio State investigation into how Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer handled domestic abuse accusations against Smith.

Ohio State has said Smith ran up a “significant bill” of nearly $600 of his own money at a Miami-area in May 2014. Ohio State could face an NCAA inquiry if the Buckeyes assistants paid for high school coaches who were present.

Herman said Thursday his wife knew and was OK with the strip club visit. Herman said he’ll speak honestly with the NCAA if asked to. He said he takes his responsibility as head coach at Texas very seriously.
