STJ Basketball Plans For Super Saturday

Both Flyers, Lady Flyers In Regionals

Only one other TAPPS 5A school in the state has both its hoops teams still in the playoffs.

St. Joe boys basketball, ranked third in the TABC state 5A private school poll, won its district title with a perfect 8-0 record. But the Flyers had to really work hard to make it past Fort Bend Christian in the Area playoffs, winning by just four points at home. Two Flyers told me how excited they are to be going to Regionals.

Said point guard Quincy Johnson, “It’s very exciting. It’s all our first time making it as Area champs. We’re just ready for a new experience.”

Said wing KeAon Griffin, “It’s exciting to all of us. A lot of us haven’t been here in this position. We’re happy to get into this position and keep going.”

St. Joe girls basketball, ranked fifth in the TABC state 5A private school poll. The Lady Flyers took second place in district, and then rolled past Providence at the St. Joe Dome to win the Area championship. Two Lady Flyers told me how much that win meant to their team.

Said post Cheyenne Stewart, “It’s really cool because we haven’t been to the playoffs since freshman year. I think it’s cool.”

Said point guard Madison Rather, “It’s very exciting. We haven’t been since around 2016, 2017. We’ve worked super hard to get to this point. I hope we can show everyone that we are hard working and that we truly do believe.”

The TAPPS 5A hoops Regionals for St. Joe basketball, now set.
The Flyers face Houston Lutheran South Saturday afternoon at 4:00 at Sealy.
St. Joe girls basketball plays its TAPPS 5A regional playoff also Saturday.
