Staff member at Stroman Middle School tests positive for COVID-19

Fist case since the district resumed in-person classes this week

VICTORIA, Texas – The first COVID-19 case since the district resumed in-person classes is confirmed. The Victoria Independent School District notified all students and families that a staff member at Stroman Middle School tested positive for COVID -19.

On Tuesday, September 8, the district said the staff member was on campus. Due to privacy requirements, the district will not be releasing the name of the individual or details identifying him or her.

Contact tracing has begun, the district said.

If it’s determined the COVID-positive person had any contact with students or staff, the individuals will be directly notified no later than 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 9.

The district said those in close contact will remain off campus for up to 14 days to ensure they do not have the virus.

Any areas accessed by the COVID-positive individual will be cleaned and disinfected.

The district said they believe there is no reason to be concerned at this time. They ask to always watch out for COVID-19 symptoms.

Below are symptoms the district provided that indicate a possible COVID-19 infection:

  • Temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth;
  • Sore throat;
  • New uncontrolled cough causing difficulty breathing (or, for students with a chronic allergic/ asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline);
  • Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; or
  • New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever.

The district does ask if you or any member of the Stroman Middle School community does begin experiencing any of these symptoms in a way that is not typical, it’s encouraged that you contact your physician. If anyone in the Stroman Middle School community has tested positive for COVID-19, please notify the school by contacting them at 361-578-2711.
