STABA brings the squared circle to Victoria
Boxers from across the state competed all weekend
VICTORIA, Texas – The South Texas Amateur Boxing Association hosted the LBC championships tournament at the Victoria Community Center this weekend.
The tournament invited 300 boxers from 90 gyms around Texas. The competitors’ ages range from only eight up to their masterclass, which is 35 plus.
The event finally made its way to Victoria because Jessie Martinez fought for the organization to host the tournament in Victoria.
“It went up for bid this year, and I suddenly wanted to give it a shot,” said Martinez. “I didn’t think I was gonna get it, but I did. So, I ran with it.”
Martinez owns a local gym Tuff-E-Nuff. His gym worked with the STABA to host the event. Though the event had a great turnout, Martinez wanted a little more support.
“I wish that like the big business people that you know that can help would help,” Martinez said. “They can see this, and they [say] ‘Oh you know when this is something we can help,’ you know, but they need to see it.”
The tournament last until tomorrow, November 3. For more information about STABA, visit their website.
