St. Joes excited to head to the state meet
VICTORIA,Texas–The St. Joes track and field team are preparing for their state meet in Waco on Friday and Saturday.
This is coach Stephen Jones’ second year as a track coach and he is excited to be a part of this journey. His first year was cut short due to COVID-19.
“It still surprises me that I get paid for this position. It’s even better to see them win. I am looking forward to going up to Waco and see them win,” said Jones.
State qualifier Caleb Ybarra is running in two events this Saturday, the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. He is coming off an injury he suffered in the first meet of the season in Goliad in the 4 by 400 meter relay, but is excited to compete.
“I’m most excited about the 100 meter dash because it is decided through fractions of seconds and it’s just the most competitive for me,” said Ybarra.
The field events begin Friday and the track events take place Saturday in Waco.
