St. Joe basketball splits district home games

St. Joe basketball hosted John Paul II on Friday

VICTORIA, Texas — St. Joe basketball split a pair of district home games Friday, with the Lady Flyers falling in the early contest and the boys winning the nightcap.

The fourth-ranked Lady Flyers got action started Friday as STJ hosted John Paul II in the dome. The St. Joe girls led for much of the contest, but were edged 56-53 despite 18 points from Maiya Tillman. Jozelyn Washington also added 18 points in the defeat.

In the second game, the Flyers jumped out to an insurmountable first quarter lead, going on a 23-2 run to open the contest. The boys would go onto win in blowout fashion, 79-35, getting a game-high 22 points from guard Quincy Johnson. Collin Omecinski scored 13 points for the Flyers, while KeAon Griffin had 12.

St. Joe boys and girls basketball continue district play next Wednesday with a pair of games at Brownsville St. Joseph.
