Texans Have High Hopes At Camp

Texans Training Camp Report 7-31

Houston, Texas - Our Texans Training Camp reports continue with big hopes, something every NFL team has early in training camp. Our Sean Coffey reports on why the Texans feel their high hopes can come true.

Back here at Houston Texans Training Camp where this team that's finally back near full strength believes the moment could be theirs for the taking. But will this be the year the Texans finally put it all together? Many close to the team believe so.

Said linebacker Whitney Mercilus, "Yeah, big time. When it comes to the AFC South, we have to take care of our division. Everybody's roster in the offseason bolstered up, no doubt."

But the Texans roster has some key additions as well, adding Bradley Roby and Tashaun Gibson to bolster the secondary, and spending a second round pick on Lonnie Johnson to that same end. It's the state of their offense, however, that really has training camp buzzing.

Said Texans TV host Drew Dougherty, "I know within the building, there's a high level of confidence because all the weapons on offense are back, as so is Deshaun Watson. And the Texans have not had a quarterback in franchise history like Deshaun Watson."

One notable name not present at camp,Pro Bowl defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who's still holding out for a new contract. But Daugherty believes once go-time arrives, a resolution will fall into place.

"He changes the game, he's a great player, and I think week one, when it matters, when you're playing the Saints and the regular season starts, you're going to see number 90 out there. "

Declining to weigh in on the business end of the team, All-Pro wideout DeAndre Hopkins, still exuding some serious confidence when asked about his own expectations.

"I feel like everybody who plays football should have that as their goal to win championships. If you don't, then there's no need to come to practice."

With a young quarterback in Deshaun Watson and a core of explosive receivers around him, this team could be a force in the AFC South not only this season, but for years to come.
