It was only fitting two of the fiercest rivals in 3A Division I football would begin preseason workouts on the same day.
Goliad and Yoakum -- both playoff teams a season ago -- opened up their preseason football workouts on Monday afternoon. Goliad is coming off a 10-3 season in 2018 that ended in a regional semifinal loss, coincidentally to the same Bulldogs. Yoakum went 12-3 last season, going all the way to the state semis.
Both teams showed plenty of confidence at Monday's practices.
"They've been chomping at the bit to get their equipment and get out on the field," said Bulldogs head coach Bo Robinson. "I would say we're ready."
Said Tigers head coach Bobby Nicholson: "Last year, we had starters out pretty much weeks one through ten. But those guys that were not hurt last year and stepped in for players who were hurt were 6-1 as starters, so we feel pretty good about what we have coming back."
Goliad will travel to East Bernard for their first scrimmage of the year on August 16th, while Yoakum will have theirs at Giddings on the same day.
