Edna, Texas -
For the second time in less than a month, an Edna football star signs with an NCAA college.
This time, it's linebacker Austin Black, signing with Mary Hardin-Baylor, the reigning NCAA Division III national champions. Black is a first team All-State 3A pick by the Texas Sports Writers Association, honorable mention by the Texas AP Sports Editors, district Defensive MVP and a member of the Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine Whataburger Super Team. In 14 games, Black had 230 tackles, 150 of them solo, 18 tackles for loss, one interception, one sack and nine caused fumbles. I talked with Austin Black and Edna football head coach Jerry Long.
Said Black, "It's just a great feeling. It's hard to put it into words. Everyone here for me, it's just a great feeling. I'm blessed to be here."
Said coach Long, "Super exciting. I couldn't be more happy for this young man. To be a coach's kid, it's a man on my staff that's well-respected, I can't imagine or begin to tell you the amount of work a kid like that puts in and how hard he's worked. Super excited for him."
Last month, Edna's first team All-State running back, Kenny Haynes, signed with Texas State.
