Cuban-Born General's Thoughts On The Fourth Of July

Diaz's Strong Feelings About America

Cuban-Born General's Thoughts On The Fourth Of July

Victoria, Texas -
On the Fourth Of July, when we celebrate our liberty and freedom, a Generals player really feels in the mood to celebrate.
Juan Diaz is the first Cuban-born player in Generals history. Diaz' mother wrote a letter to the Cuban government requesting a visa and she got randomly selected in a lotto-type format. But, Juan and his family had to wait 12 years to be able to actually come to America. Diaz has been in the USA for ten years. After making All-District first team twice at Judson, Juan went to Our Lady Of The Lake. This season, Diaz made first team Red River All-Conference and was picked to the Red River All-Tournament team.  I talked with Juan Diaz about how special the Fourth Of July is to him.

"It's very special. Ten years ago I never thought I'd be in this place where I am right now, playing ball with a great group of guys that I'd never thought I'd meet from all parts of the world. It's great to give thanks to those who sacrificed a lot for us to be here and to be able to do what we do. It means a lot to us, it really does."

Juan Diaz and the Generals return to action Friday night at Riverside against Baton Rouge.
