Port Lavaca, Texas -
Port Lavaca will be the scene of one of the biggest high school football games in the state Friday night.
Eighth ranked Calhoun will host third ranked Calallen, who's longtime head coach, Phil Danaher, is one win away from becoming the first Texas high school football coach to get 400 career wins at one school. The Wildcats lead the district. The Sandcrabs have one district loss, a forfeit to Alice, and their offense piled up 563 yards last week. I asked two Sandcrabs how well they are playing heading into this humongous game.
Said quarterback Conner Kestler, "It's a big game. It's a district championship game. We're rolling ever since we lost to Mexico, putting up 50 points a game. Our O-line has been unbelievable, our defense has been stepping up big and our team overall has just been great. "
Said linebacker Cade Kveton, "I really like how defense has been coming on, coming out strong and just getting a few stops and getting our offense, helping them just keep racking the points up. "
