Calhoun beats Calallen for district title

Calhoun Football Wins District Title

VICTORIA, Texas - Calhoun football wanted some revenge, and they got a measure of it Friday night.

Just shy of a year after Calallen ousted the Sandcrabs in the state quarterfinals, Calhoun defeated the Wildcats 17-6 to win the District 15-5A Division II championship. The win means the Sandcrabs will host Sharyland as the district's top seed, with that first round playoff game coming next Friday at 7:30 pm in Port Lavaca.

"It was amazing," said senior linebacker Cade Kveton after the game. "Being able to come back after that quarterfinal game and get a little bit of revenge on them."

The Sandcrabs managed to hold the Wildcats to just six points, recovering a pair of first half fumbles as part of a staunch defensive effort. After taking the lead on an early field goal, quarterback Connor Kestler rumbled for a 37-yard touchdown run that gave the Crabs a 10-0 lead going into halftime.

Calhoun finishes the regular season 8-2 overall, and 6-1 in district. The lone district loss came after a 55-7 victory over Alice had to be forfeited due to an ineligible player taking the field during that game.
