Victoria, Texas - When East football's starting running back, William Garley, was injured and not able to play against Carroll, the Titans called on a junior who had barely carried the football last year on varsity. Alan Jimenez answered the call, and how. In his first game as a Titan starter, Jimenez rushed for 201 yards and a Titan football record six touchdowns in their win in Corpus Christi over the Tigers. Then last Friday night, Jimenez was at it again, scoring four more touchdowns while rushing for 246 yards in the Titans' blowout win over King.
"I didn't really think about it. I knew what I had to do. After the game, I remembered everything I did."
Said head coach Roland Gonzalez, "I'm not only proud of him for his performance but moreso his ability to be sacrificial and step up and really take the opportunity to make the best of it."
As any good running back does, Jimenez credits the Titan offensive line for his success.
"It was great. The line was blocking for me. They opened up the gaps for me. That's the reason I did what I did."
Said coach Gonzalez, "We're a well-rounded team right now. We want to just keep getting better."
When he plays, Jimenez has crosses drawn underneath his eyes.
"It's dedicated to my grandma. I wear it for God and I go to church every Sunday and all that. It gives me peace so that I know she's watching over me.."
