Specially called city council meeting called on Monday

Victoria City Council met Monday

VICTORIA, Texas — A special Victoria city council meeting was called on Monday to discuss a budget for the 2020-2021 fiscal year.

At the meeting, city manager Jesus Garza proposed a revised budget for the upcoming fiscal year, putting a heavy emphasis on increasing “liveability” in the City of Victoria while continuing to streamline the city’s efforts to modernize.

“I think it’s a very, very important part of what we do,” said Garza. “To be able to connect the dots between what all of our departments do and the way in which they enhance liveability.”

The proposed budget would include a roughly $4.4 million decrease in the city’s general fund for 2020-21, due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect on the local economy. The general fund covers items like city maintenance and emergency personnel.

The city is considering raising its contribution to health insurance.
