Small Business Saturday in the Crossroads

"It keeps Victoria growing, when you shop local and small businesses," says Margo Goode owner of House of Beauty in Victoria

VICTORIA, Texas – Small Business Saturday is a day set aside to recognize and encourage shoppers to shop local, and support smaller, family-owned businesses. Immediately following Black Friday where shoppers tend to spend their money at larger, chain businesses, Small Business Saturday has an emphasis on shopping local.

Marc Lewis is the owner of Unique Trends Clothing and Accessories and says that shopping local is a great way to not only support a small business but to help out the Victoria community and that he helps motivate others.

“First thing I think I motivate a lot of people. Second of all, I think a lot of money that’s spent is going back into the community,” says Lewis.

Not only does he sell clothing but his store also has a barbershop. Lewis says that while the pandemic has been tough for small business owners he’s hopeful for the future.

“With all we went through the last two years I feel a lot better,” says Lewis.

Margo Goode has been in business for over 7 years operating in Victoria and recently opened up her own storefront. Goode’s business, House of Beauty, specializes in a variety of beautician services from lash extensions, braids, cuts, color, and waxing just to name. In addition to that, she also has a boutique. Goode says that shopping local is a great way to keep Victoria growing.

“With my business being a small business in the community it helps to recycle money back into the neighborhoods, it keeps Victoria growing, when you shop local and small businesses,” says Goode.

On top of all her services and goods offered Goode also recently started offering classes on some of her beautician services so her clients don’t have to travel out of town for this kind of knowledge.

“Because Victoria is growing in great ways, so I thought it would be nice to offer different classes so people won’t have to go to the city,” says Goode.

Although Small Business Saturday might be just one day out of the year, local small businesses welcome business of any kind throughout the year, and you can know your money is going back into the Victoria community.
