Six hospitalized after four-vehicle crash outside Formosa Plant

A four- vehicle accident Tuesday morning resulted in six people being taken to the hospital in varying conditions.

A statement from Texas DPS Sgt. San Miguel explains that authorities responded to the call at 6:42 a.m. about a four- vehicle crash on US Highway 35 outside of Gate 6 of the Formosa Plant.

Sgt. San Miguel states that vehicle number two, a 2019 Ford F-150 driven by Miguel A. Diaz of Mission, Texas, was traveling North on US Highway 35 attempting to turn into gate six at the Formosa Plant. Diaz was traveling with one passenger, Roberto Carlos Castillo of Mission, Texas.

Meanwhile, vehicle number one, a 2012 Kia Sorento driven by Emilia Celine Lopez of Victoria, was traveling North on US Highway behind vehicle two. Lopez failed to Control Speed and rear-ended Daiz’s car.

The impact pushed Diaz’s car into the oncoming lane of US Highway 35. Vehicle number three, a 2014 Mercedes-Benz driven by Samantha Nicol Reyes of Brownsville, Texas, was traveling South on US Highway 35 and was unable to avoid Diaz’s car and hit his car in the front right bumper. Reyes was also driving with a passenger, Sonny Curtiss Wences, of Brownsville.

Vehicle four, a 2015 Ford F-250 driven by David Easton Lehew of Spring, Texas, was travelling North on Highway 35 behind Lopez’s car (vehicle one). Lehew was unable to avoid Lopez’s car and hit it in the rear pushing her car in the grassy barrow ditch.

Sgt. San Miguel reported that Emilia Cline Lopez, driver of vehicle one, was flown via PHI from the crash scene to Herman Memorial Hospital in Houston, Texas in serious condition.

Miguel A. Diaz, driver of vehicle two, was transported by Calhoun EMS to Memorial Medical Center in Port Lavaca in stable condition. The passenger in Diaz’s car, Roberto Carlos Castillo was transported by Calhoun EMS to Memorial Medical Center in Port Lavaca in stable condition.

Samantha Nicol Reyes, the driver of vehicle three, was transported by Calhoun EMS to Memorial Medical Center in Port Lavaca in stable condition. The passenger in Reyes’ car, Sonny Curtiss Wences, was also transported by Calhoun EMS to Memorial Medical Center in Port Lavaca in stable condition.

The driver of vehicle four, David Easton Lehew, was transported by Calhoun EMS to Memorial Medical Center in Port Lavaca in stable condition.

Sgt. Sam Miguel reported that persons were wearing safety belts. The investigation is still ongoing.
