Shiner falls in state semifinal game

Final score 14-1 New Deal

ROUND ROCK, Texas — The Shiner Comanches baseball season is over after they lost in the state semifinal game to the New Deal Lions.

A combination of errors for the Shiner team and hot bats for New Deal proved to be what caused Shiner to fall. New Deal hit a total of six doubles and totaled 14 hits total. Shiner on the other hand only had five hits but had four errors. New Deal had three big innings which totaled 14 runs and Shiner only scored one. Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker says although this was not the result they wanted, the kids can learn how to deal with adversity.

“We came up against a really good team today who swung the bat well and that was the difference in today’s game,” said Boedeker. “I thought our kids competed… There were a lot of things that did not go our way early and we dug ourselves a hole and we had a lot of trouble trying to climb our way out of it.”

This was shiners fifth time reaching the state tournament and coach Boedeker says this group of guys will have memories that will last a life time and he thanks his seniors for everything they have done for the team.

“It didn’t end the way we wanted it to, but [the team] created so many good memories,” said Boedeker. “I want them to focus on the good times they had because they did a lot of really good things. it is just unfortunate for us to come up short.”

Congratulations Shiner on an amazing season and year.
