Shields Elementary School honors veterans
VICTORIA, Texas — Shields Elementary held a program called Take A Vet To School Day. This program was designed to explain to them the importance of Veterans Day.
Kelly Gabrysch, Shields Elementary School principal said, “So with our event today we put together a Take A Vet to School Day program. So we are going to have several veterans come to visit the classrooms and share their experiences. The kids will be able to ask questions and learn more about the veterans”.
Shields Elementary Partnered with SuddenLink by Altice to begin this program that honors veterans.
“We’re also really excited about this program because their students actually got involved and a lot of the students were involved in leading the ceremonies, MCing the event, as well as reading poems, and doing the flag presentations,” said Curt Allison SuddenLink Altice Community Engagement Specialist.
One of the guest speakers, retired Army Colonel Mike Petrash, taught students how to fold an American flag. Afterward, he gifted them with their own personal flag. Meanwhile, Congressman Micheal Cloud sent a message to all those celebrating the men and women who have fought for our country.
“To those who served in Korea the Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and all over the world, taking time from their families to serve our nation and defend the peace her at home. Today is about saying, ‘Thank you,'” said Micheal Cloud, U.S. House of Representatives for Texas 27 th Congressional District.
The children at Shields Elementary School gave a huge thank you at the end of the program to the Veterans.
