Services update in Affected Areas

Tropical Storm Harvey continues to linger over the Victoria area. While we experienced mostly light rain today, more rain is in the forecast.

Significant rainfall and gusty winds are in the forecast through most of the week. The threat of significant flooding still exists on all the rivers and creeks in this area. The Victoria Police Department went door-to-door in many areas that will be impacted by the major flooding on the Guadalupe River, advising residents to protect their property and be prepared to leave. Residents in low-lying areas should continue to monitor the situation.

WATER SERVICE

The City of Victoria is still working to restore full water service. Once water service is fully restored, a boil notice will still be in effect for at least several days. Residents will be notified when the notice is lifted.

ICE AND WATER DISTRIBUTION

With assistance from state emergency management services, residents can receive free water and ice at distribution centers. The distribution centers will be open Monday at Victoria East High School (4103 E. Mockingbird) and the Victoria Community Center (2905 E. North Street) from noon to 6 p.m.

ELECTRIC SERVICE

Progress is being made to restore power to residents. AEP estimates that 95% of their Victoria customers will have power restored by 10 p.m. Saturday night.

WASTE AND DEBRIS DISPOSAL

Residential trash collection is temporarily halted to allow City crews to clear streets of limbs and debris.

City crews are clearing debris on major thoroughfares in the City. Limbs will be pushed out of the streets, placed on curbs and will be picked up later. If you see limbs/debris blocking storm drains, please help us by moving them out of the way. The stacks should not be located by the street where they could fall over and block drainage in gutters and ditches.

Waste Management will not have commercial garbage collection services on Monday. The Landfill is also closed.

PHONE LINES WILL OPEN TO REPORT UTILITY ISSUES

The City of Victoria Public Works Department will accept phone calls from residents beginning Monday, Aug. 28 who need to report various utility-related issues (water, wastewater, streets, traffic control, etc.) resulting from Hurricane Harvey. Residents can call the Public Works Department at 361-485-3381 between the hours of 8 am to 7 pm Monday through Friday.
