VICTORIA, Texas – Selena Quintanilla-Perez, known as Selena, would have turned 50 years old on Friday, April 16, also known as “Selena Day.”

The Latina icon continues to be celebrated and remembered by her fans, especially on what would have been a milestone birthday. People continue to honor the late Grammy-winning singer’s life by enjoying and streaming her music on several music streaming platforms.

Selena became known as the Queen of Tejano, after becoming a pioneer in a genre dominated by men. She maintained a crossover for her songs in both English and Spanish, and her legacy continues to carry over into several generations.

26 years ago, Quintanilla-Perez was murdered by her fan club manager in 1995, days before her birthday.

Selena’s cultural impact continues to be shared through her coming-of-age story in the Netflix series “Selena: The Series.” The second season will premiere on May 4, 2021. It highlights her musical journey, as well focuses on her Latino family as they navigate the entertainment industry, wanting a better life.
