Search continues for 10-year-old boy at Matagorda Beach
The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a 10-year-old near Jetty Park.
MATAGORDA COUNTY, Texas – The search continues for a missing child in Matagorda.
According to a news release by the U.S. Coast Guard, the search continues for a 10-year-old near Jetty Park who was last seen wearing black swim trunks.
On Sunday, June 6 at around 6:50 p.m., authorities received a call that three people in water at Matagorda Beach were in distress.
A news release provided by the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a 30-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy were taken out by the surf.
The U.S. Coast Guard were notified and two boats were sent out and a helicopter to search for the missing man and child, said the news release.
At approximately 8:15 p.m. Sunday, the body of 30-year-old Rudy Gomez washed ashore and was found around the same location where Gomez was swept out, according to the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said Gomez showed an address in Angleton.
“Watchstanders directed the launch of two 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boat crews from Coast Guard Station Port O’Connor and Station Freeport as well as a Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew,” according to a news release.

Matagorda County EMS made location and were unable to find a pulse. Justice of the Peace pct. 6 was notified and made location at Jetty Park to perform an inquest. Rudy Gomez, 30 years old, showed an address in Angleton, Texas.The search for the 10 year old boy is ongoing at this time. The Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Game Wardens, LCRA Rangers and the Coast Guard are searching by boat, air and by vehicle.
