Rip Current Statement
Aransas Islands-Kleberg Islands-Nueces Islands-Calhoun Islands-
305 PM CST Tue Feb 19 2019
…HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CST
…COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST
* COASTAL FLOODING…Tides are expected to reach 2.0 feet above
Mean Sea Level around periods of high tides. High tide at Bob
Hall Pier is at 4:52 PM today and then again at 1:27 AM
Wednesday. High tide at Port Aransas is at 2:01 AM Wednesday.
* Timing…High Rip Current Risk through Midnight tonight. Coastal
Flood Advisory through early Wednesday morning.
* IMPACTS…Strong rip currents are expected along gulf-facing
beaches, especially near piers and jetties. These rip currents
can become life-threatening to anyone entering the surf. For
Coastal Flooding, driving conditions may be adversely impacted
as water reaches the dunes, especially during high tide cycles.
Some beach access roads may become impassible, and some beaches
will remain closed.
Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
