Representative Morrison to host House Committee on Culture, Recreation & Tourism Hearing in Victoria

VICTORIA, Texas – State Representative Geanie W. Morrison and the Texas House Committee on Culture, Recreation and Tourism will hold a public hearing in Victoria on Thursday, February 20th. The hearing will start at 1:00 PM at the Victoria College Emerging Technology Complex at 7402 Lone Tree Rd. The committee will meet to hear about the implementation of two bills Rep. Morrison passed HB 2321 and HB 1300. HB 2321 helps protect against the illegal harvesting of undersized oysters and HB 1300 allows for oyster aquaculture in Texas.

House members will hear invited and public testimony from individuals and professionals interested in how these bills are being implemented. The Committee has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to the creation, operation, and control of state parks; the regulation and control of the propagation and preservation of wildlife and fish in the state; the development and regulation of the fish and oyster industries of the state; hunting and fishing in the state, and the regulation and control thereof.

Rep. Morrison encouraged constituents to attend and testify stating “these bills were the product of my constituents notifying the Legislature of a need, and it is hearings like this where your voice helps to make a positive change in our community.”
