Region 16 Swim Qualifiers Conclude from VISD Aquatics Center

Sunday was the second day of regional swim qualifiers from the Victoria ISD Aquatics Center, with swimmers from Victoria, Corpus, Rockport, Port Aransas, Odem, Kingsville and more all gathering with hopes of reaching state qualifiers. After Saturday morning’s event featuring the 10-and-under age group, Sunday featured South Texas’ best swimmers’ ages 11-and-up as they vied for a spot a the TAAF State Championships.

“It makes me feel confident that practice is actually working and all the workouts and time you put into it,” said 15 year old Tanner Luke, who qualified in the medley relay and 50 yard breast stroke. “You know it makes me feel better, healthier.”

“It feels great, knowing that all the hard work is making my time a lot better,” added another qualifier, 12 year old Townes VanGundy. “It makes it so I can go to States and maybe Nationals.”

The Victoria Aquatics Center has played host to multiple events leading up to regional qualifiers, including a city meet two weeks ago that narrowed down the field for this event. State Championships will be held in College Station from July 26th to 29th this year, with the top three swimmers from each event at regional qualifiers going through.
