Refugio’s Mascorro commits to Sam Houston State
Bobcats senior will join the Bearkats as a LB
REFUGIO, Texas — Ysidro Mascorro will join his brother Trace at Sam Houston State.
Mascorro committed to play football at Sam Houston State this weekend as a linebacker, two months after helping lead the Bobcats to their fifth state football championship in program history. Mascorro was also a standout running back for the Bobcats in 2019.
The decision completes a long-held dream for the Refugio native, who said during the playoffs he wanted to team up again with his older brother, Trace — currently a defensive lineman with the Bearkats. The two played together in Ysidro’s freshman season at Refugio.
The senior was named first-team All State at LB in 2019, recording 130 tackles, 38 TFL, three sacks and two forced fumbles. He will officially sign with Sam Houston State on Wednesday at 1:30 pm in the Refugio cafeteria.
