Bobcats Still Waiting On 2019 State Title Rings
Refugio football will start pre-season practice Monday.
Head coach Jason Herring tells us they will practice in groups of 15, with one group outside, one inside. Then they will have another two groups brought in after the first two are done.
The defending state 2A Division I champions, still waiting on their state title rings. Coach Herring tells us the rings won’t be delivered to Refugio until mid or late July. That’s because the Balfour plant in Austin that makes the rings just reopened Monday. Coach Herring says there is a state championship ring presentation ceremony still planned at the high school.
Coach Herring also confirmed to us that Refugio football will play all road games this season. Jack Sportsman Bobcat Stadium was closed back in January due to falling debris from the concrete bleachers. Coach Herring says they had brought in engineers and they were formulating a plan to fix the problem. Then the pandemic hit, that stopped the progress, and the stadium will not be repaired in time for this season. Coach Herring tells us the Refugio high school gym just got reopened two weeks ago after the damage it suffered from Hurricane Harvey. Coach Herring added that most, if not all, Refugio football 2021 games should be played at home.
